General summary/purpose:
Position is responsible for review of conflict of interest and commitment disclosures for compliance with all applicable policies and procedures that protect the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) and Whiting School of Engineering's (WSE) combined multi-million dollar sponsored research funds. In addition, the position will work closely with other staff, faculty members, and institutional leaders on compliance with relevant federal and state regulations regarding conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, human participant research, and other compliance areas. Position will also support the Homewood Conflict Review Committee and Homewood Institutional Review Board.

Specific duties & responsibilities:
Conflict of Interest Support:
Independently review and process disclosures of outside activities and financial interests in accordance with institutional and office policy and procedures.
Identify data needed to review potential conflicts of interest and to ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations.
Conduct compliance activities to ensure faculty understand and follow policies
Assist with organizing meetings and preparing agenda for the Conflict Review Committee (CRC) meetings
Assist with the process of faculty Annual Certification
Work closely with Johns Hopkins University Research Administration, Business and Research Administration, Technology Ventures, and Human Subjects Research (IRB) for complex COI cases.
Conduct supplemental research of complex disclosures; prepare resulting case write-ups and present cases to the Conflict Review Committee for review.
Provide training and support to staff and faculty members regarding disclosures, policy questions and other requests as needed.
Develop recommendations for assuring compliance with federal regulations.
Conduct testing of the electronic disclosure system to identify problems and bugs.
Perform routine database queries and report generation.
IRB/Research Compliance Support
Provide pre-review for incoming IRB research applications, determine adequacy of IRB applications and level of review required, select reviewers for protocol reviews, follow-up with IRB reviewers to assure appropriate level of review provided, and prepare approval letters through eHIRB
Provide guidance to research team members regarding the IRB submission process, and assists researchers with the development of an IRB application and/or informed consent documents.
Provide training and act as internal consultant to staff, IRB committee members, and the JHU research community.
Conduct testing of the electronic HIRB system to identify problems and bugs.
Perform routine database queries and report generation.
Administrative Support

Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university required. Requires 2 years of IRB, COI, or other related regulatory experience or research compliance experience, preferably in an academic setting.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Working knowledge of the federal regulations related to IRB and human subject research subjects.
Knowledge of PHS regulations related to promoting objectivity in research preferred.
High level of organizational skills, time management, and strong analytical reasoning skills.
Can work with limited supervision, makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations
Must be service-oriented and able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Must be able to function both independently and as a member of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook required
